CPI là viết tắt của Consumer Price Index (Chỉ số giá tiêu dùng). Đây là một chỉ số kinh tế quan trọng được sử dụng để đo lường mức độ thay đổi giá cả hàng hóa và dịch vụ tiêu dùng theo thời gian. CPI được tính toán bằng cách so sánh giá của một giỏ hàng hóa và dịch vụ tiêu dùng đại diện trong một thời điểm nhất định với giá của cùng một giỏ hàng hóa và dịch vụ trong một thời điểm khác.

Mục đích của CPI:

  • Đánh giá mức độ lạm phát: CPI là thước đo chính của lạm phát, giúp nhà hoạch định chính sách và người tiêu dùng đánh giá mức độ thay đổi giá cả chung trong nền kinh tế.
  • Điều chỉnh lương bổng và thu nhập: CPI được sử dụng để điều chỉnh lương bổng, thu nhập hưu trí và các khoản thanh toán khác cho phù hợp với sự thay đổi giá cả.
  • Theo dõi sức khỏe kinh tế: CPI là một chỉ báo quan trọng về sức khỏe của nền kinh tế, giúp nhà đầu tư và doanh nghiệp đưa ra quyết định kinh doanh sáng suốt.

Cách tính CPI:

CPI được tính toán dựa trên một phương pháp gọi là mức giá trung bình. Theo phương pháp này, giá của một giỏ hàng hóa và dịch vụ tiêu dùng đại diện được thu thập tại các thời điểm khác nhau và được so sánh với nhau. Giỏ hàng tiêu dùng đại diện bao gồm các mặt hàng và dịch vụ mà người tiêu dùng thường mua, được chia thành các nhóm như thực phẩm, nhà ở, giao thông, v.v.

Ví dụ:

Giả sử giỏ hàng tiêu dùng đại diện có giá 100.000 đồng vào tháng 1 năm 2023 và giá của giỏ hàng này tăng lên 105.000 đồng vào tháng 1 năm 2024. CPI trong giai đoạn này được tính toán như sau:

CPI = (Giá tháng 1 năm 2024 / Giá tháng 1 năm 2023) x 100 = (105.000 / 100.000) x 100 = 105%

Ý nghĩa của CPI:

CPI cao cho thấy giá cả hàng hóa và dịch vụ tiêu dùng đang tăng lên, nghĩa là người tiêu dùng phải chi nhiều tiền hơn cho cùng một lượng hàng hóa và dịch vụ. CPI thấp cho thấy giá cả hàng hóa và dịch vụ tiêu dùng đang giảm xuống, nghĩa là người tiêu dùng có thể mua được nhiều hàng hóa và dịch vụ hơn với cùng một lượng tiền.

CPI ở Việt Nam:

Tại Việt Nam, CPI được tính toán và công bố hàng tháng bởi Tổng cục Thống kê. CPI được tính toán cho cả nước và cho từng khu vực (nội thành, nông thôn). CPI được sử dụng để điều chỉnh lương bổng, thu nhập hưu trí và các khoản thanh toán khác cho phù hợp với sự thay đổi giá cả.
